Home Server Setup

I like to tinker, a lot. Installing and trying out software is fun. Some of it gets uninstalled almost immediately, but other stuff last longer and maybe even gets real use. While this blog is hosted externally for various practical and security reasons, most of the stuff I play with is installed on my PCs at home. Currently as well as various laptops in the house I have:

The biggest use of my home servers is as media-servers. Initially using Plex (which I still have running) but I’ve since added JellyFin as an alternate way of playing movies, tv and music, and other more specialized software.

The Lenovo was my original server, an old machine purchased used and Windows replaced by Ubuntu due to it’s limited memory. I was really starting to push its limits though with how much I had installed which is when I got the HP G3, at which point the Lenovo was relegated to running nightly backups. Once it finally gave up (after over 10 years of service, and I had purchased it refurbished)
